Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic will commence General studies (GNS) Agriculture, the Rector of the institution has said. GNS Agriculture is a general studies courses that all students must enroll in irrespective of their course of study.

According to the Rector, Dr. Sanni Kehinde Oseni, every student would be allocated and maintain either a bed or ridge and that grades will be awarded accordingly.

He further explained that at 70-30% percentage sharing ratio, this initiative is to provide food security to the immediate environment of the polytechnic at affordable prices.

He further noted that “apart from providing solutions to food insecurity, Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic will produce self- reliant agriculturist who will with little or no intent for white collar job”, he said.

The soil management expert revealed this while addressing the academic members of staff in the polytechnic. He maintained that his leadership would leverage on the achievement of previous administrators in order to ride the train of the polytechnic to a greater height.

“I met saapade in a good shape. We shall all have a progressive polytechnic together”, he said.

Oseni further revealed that as part of progressiveness, the management will with outmost priority invest in infrastructural development in order to meet the growing population of students.

“The polytechnic is rapidly growing and to meet these demands, School of Agriculture engineering, School of Science, state of the art Polytechnic Library, Centre for Technology development will be constructed”.

The Rector while advising members of staff urged lecturers to be punctual to class. In his words, punctuality is the key to attracting students to classrooms. The students run away from classes when lecturers are not punctual to classrooms”, he added.

On behalf of all academic staff, the chairperson, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), Comrade Afolabi Micheal, appreciated the Rector for the initiative noting that all hands will be on deck for a progressive Gateway Polytechnic.
