Brief History

The department was established in July, 2006 by an instrument of the Academic Board with Mr O.E Solaru as the coordinator. It operated under School of Management and Business Studies (SMBS).The department was established to run both National Diploma(ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme. The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) visited the department for a pre- resource inspection on 2007 and main resource inspection took place in 2008. Full accreditation to run ND Business Administration was given in 2010 during 2008/2009 set and HND full accreditation was in 2016.


At present, the department runs full – time programmes in both National Diploma and Higher National Diploma which are fully resourced and accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) The structure of the ND programme consists of four (4) semesters classroom activities with four (4)months industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) and a year Industrial training after National Diploma (ND) completion which act as a prerequisite for HND admission.   The department had the best overall students in 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 academic session. The department has produced middle level manager. The current Head of Department is Mrs M.O Ogunsola.

Subjects Required for Application:

SSCE / WAEC /GCE / NECO with at least five credits at two sittings: English Language (not Literature in English), Mathematics and any Three subjects from the following: Economics/Commerce, Business Methods/Business Studies/Business Management, Accounts/Book Keeping, Literature in English, Typewriting, Shorthand, statistics, Geography, History/Government/Civic Education, Biology/Agricultural Science/General Agriculture, Office Practice, Insurance/Marketing, Computer Study/Data Processing, OR:
NABTEB: At least five credits at two sittings, which must include: Mathematics, English Language and any other three from the following:
  • GENERAL EDUCATION COMPONENTS (Two subjects from the following) : Economics/Commerce, Physics/Chemistry, Government, Literature in English, Social Studies and Biology.
  • TRADE COMPONENT/TRADE RELATED COMPONENT (One subject from the following) : Principles of Accounts, Social Studies, Office Practice, and Information Communication Technology.
