Brief History

The Department was established in September, 2009 by the Academic Board with Engr. David S. Kuponiyi as the Head of Department. The Department was established to run both National Diploma and (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme leading to the award of National Diploma & Higher National Diploma in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.


The Department as well as the Polytechnic has the backing of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to run the programme as the course is fully resourced and accredited by the body (NBTE).The Department has in few years ago also has the support from the NBTE to run Higher National Programmes.


Presently

At present, the Department runs full-time programmes in both National Diploma and Higher National Diploma which are fulling resourced and Accredited by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The programmes are;

  • Full-time National Diploma Programme
  • Full-time Higher National Diploma Programme (Electronics/Telecommunication Option)
  • Full-time Higher National Diploma Programme (Power and Machines Option)

  • The structure of the HND programmes consists of four (4) semesters of classroom, laboratory and workshop activities, while the ND programmes also consists of four (4) semesters of classroom, laboratory and workshop activities and four (4) months of Supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES). After National Diploma program is a one (1) year industrial training as a prerequisite for admission into HND. The current Head of Department is Engr. Eko Michael A.


    Subjects Required for Application:

    SSCE / WAEC /GCE / NECO with at least 5 credits at two sittings, which must include:
    English Language (not Literature in English), Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and any other one from, Biology/Agricultural Science/General Agriculture, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics/Electronics/Electrical Installation and Maintenance Works/ Basic Electricity/Applied electricity/Auto Electrical works/|Auto Mechanics work/Metal works/Building construction, Woodwork, (for civil Engineering) Computer Studies/Data Processing, Further Mathematics, Geography.
    OR:
    NABTEB: At least 5 credits at two sittings which must include Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry and any other one subject from the following: TRADE COMPONENT/TRADE RELATED COMPONENT (One Subject from the following) Basic Electronics/Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Block Laying & Concreting, Carpentry & Joinery, Furniture Craft Practice, Domestic & Industrial I nstallations, Cable Joining & Battery Charging, Winding of Electrical Machines and relevant NTC/NBC & NVC Trades.
