Brief History

The department of General Studies (GNS) was created in 2006 when the Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Saapade was established. The department is made up of different units with lecturers in different fields ranging from the liberal arts to the humanities and sciences. The department is under the School of Liberal Studies(SLS) with fifteen (15) teaching members of staff and three (3) non-teaching members of staff.

The department services all other departments in the Polytechnic. All courses are taught by seasoned professionals who broaden the intellectual horizon of the students and expose them to other disciplines apart from their course of study. Courses taught include Mathematics, Statistics, Use of English, Communication in English, Business Communication, Technical English, Economics, different aspects of law, Citizenship Education, Sociology and Psychology among others.

The members of staff are seasoned and experienced professionals in their fields and they add to their knowledge by pursuing postgraduate studies relevant to their area of specialization. Presently, the department is headed by Mrs Osinaike, Funmilola. O.



Presently

  • The department services all GNS courses in the Polytechnic as stipulated in the curriculum by the National Board for Technical Education.
    Lecturers teach the students during the semester and the students are examined at the end of the semester.
  • Internal Moderation of examination questions for National Diploma one (ND I) and Higher National Diploma one (HND I) students.
