Brief History

The Polytechnic library took off at the onset of the Polytechnic which was established by 2005 and subsequently commenced operation on the 22nd of June, 2008. The library complex was commissioned by the then Governor of Ogun state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel on the 12th of September, 2007. Mrs A.O Koiki who was the first Head of Library was seconded from Olabisi Onabanjo University Ago Iwoye, Ogun state to steer the ship of the library. Mrs C.O. Adeeko was appointed as the first professional librarian to head the library by May 2012.

The Polytechnic library has in its collections books and journals related to various courses offered by the Polytechnics.


User Population

The Polytechnic library has different categories of users, these are regular students, part-time students, staff and occasional users. All these are expected to be registered users of the library except the occasional users.


Library Organisational Structure

The organization structure of the Polytechnic library Saapade comprises of the following divisions/units:


  • The Polytechnic librarian’s office-This is the administrative centre of the library, where all library activities and operation are directed and coordinated. All library communications with the Polytechnic Management and outside pass through the desk of the Polytechnic Libarian.

  • Collection Development Division-This is the section of the library that is responsible for selecting and acquiring information material that will enable librarians to perform their myriad functions to the library users effectively.

  • Technical Services Division-This is the section of the library that is responsible for selecting and acquiring information material that will enable librarians to perform their myriad functions to the library users effectively.

  • Readers’ Services Division-This is the section of the library that is responsible for selecting and acquiring information material that will enable librarians to perform their myriad functions to the library users effectively.
    1. Circulation Section: This is the place in the library where the library users first have contact with the library staff. It is the public relations unit of the library, their responsibilities and duties include; registration of all eligible library users in the Polytechnic community; takes care of all charging and discharging of library books; shelving and shelf reading of all books consulted.
    2. Reprographic and Bindery section: The Library, in order to maximize the time of the users and the proper handling of the library materials provides photocopying services for users in the library. The bindery section is where torn, mutilated or roughly handled books are bound.
    3. Reference section: This is the section where materials referred to as reference materials are kept. These are very important books that cannot be borrowed like the other books; they can only be used in the library for quick reference. Inside reference books, there is usually the instruction;“for reference only, not to be taken out of the library”. Some reference materials if not most are fat and bulky books, some others are wide and large, to be on the safe side it is better to use them in the library. The duties of the Reference librarian is articulating the problems of the library users clearly and answering the users’ questions in order to provide necessary reference service to the users.
    4. Serials section: This section is in charge of acquiring, processing and disseminating periodicals.
