Brief History

With a crop of experienced and highly motivated Staff, the Department provides a most conducive learning environment and world class facility to enhance students learning and research in various aspects of Mass Communication. With sequences in Broadcast Journalism, Print Journalism, Public Relations and Advertising and Book Publishing, the Department offers two years programs that allow successful candidates to fit into the communication industry in the society.


At present, the department runs a two year National Diploma (ND) Programme in Mass Communication and would commence the Higher National Diploma programme very soon after assessment from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The structure of the ND programme consists of four semesters of classroom and studios activities in the Polytechnic and four (4) months of supervised Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES).

  • Subjects Required for Application:

    SSCE / WAEC /GCE / NECO with at least five credits at two sittings
    English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and any other two subjects from the following: History, Economics/Commerce, Fine Arts/Visual Arts, Printing Craft Practice/Photography/Basic Electronics/Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work/Electronics, Government/Civic Education/Social Studies, Biology/Agricultural Science/ General Agriculture, Geography, Typewriting, Book Keeping/Principles of Accounting, Nigerian Language (Yoruba, Hausa And Igbo).
    NABTEB: At least five credits at two sittings, which must include: Mathematics, English Language and any other three from the following:

  • GENERAL EDUCATION COMPONENTS (Two subjects from the following) : Economics/Commerce, Government, Literature in English, Social Studies and Biology
  • TRADE COMPONENT/TRADE RELATED COMPONENT (One subject from the following) : Principles of Accounts, Social Studies, Office Practice, Information Communication Technology.
