Comrade Onakoya Abdulkareem has been elected as the president of the Student Union Government, SUG, Gateway Polytechnic (ICT) Saapade chapter for the 2019/2020 academic session.
The newly elected president at the S.K Onafowokan auditorium polled 341 votes to defeat Comrade Ibrahim Quadri with 35 votes with21 invalid votes out of 409 accredited voters.
The keenly contested election had Comrade Osinachi David (180 votes) as the Public Relations Officer (P.R.O) I against Comrade Hussein Kazeem(43 votes) and Comrade Shittu Esther as P.R.O II ( 93 votes) against Comrade Busayo Oluwaseyi (45 votes) with 38 invalid votes.
Likewise, Comrade Shotomide Ibukunoluwa emerged as the assistance general secretary with 330 votes against Comrade Ojukwu Nnamdi, 55 votes with 18 voted as invalid while Comrade Omidiji Olorunwa got 159 votes as the social director against Ogundeji mary, 119 votes and Kayode Olorunfumbi, 76 votes with 41 as invalid votes.
Both Comrades Ayeni Olawale and Famobio Ayodeji were disqualified for the sport director and treasurer positions respectively while Comrade Mayegunn Quam was disqualified due to behavioral misconduct for the presidential position whereas, the vice president and general secretary positions had no candidates.
The financial secretary, Comrade Abdulshakiru Olawale and welfare officer, Olatunji Idowu were both unopposed.
The hitch free election was witnessed by the Special Adviser (S.A) to the Ogun State Governor on Student Affairs, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez, National Vice President, National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Comrade Ojo Raymond, President, National Union of Ogun State Students, NAOSS, Comrade Ogunrombi Gbemileke and President, National Association of Polytechnic Students, NAPS, Comrade Olunkanmi Ijadunoye.
Meanwhile, the S.A to the governor, Ogun state, on Student Affairs, Comrade Adeyemi Azeez has urged the newly elected SUG executive to protect the interest of GAPOSA students by collaborating with the management of the institution.
Adeyemi at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected SUG executives advised GAPOSA students to avoid indictment by any panel set up by the Management to avoid disqualification of candidate from any SUG position. It would be a bad precedence if you are not found worthy in learning and character; any student indicted of any crime will be disqualified, added.
Commending the effort of Management, the special Adviser lauded the Rector, Dr. Isaiah Oyeyinka as a vibrant and exemplary administrator who has set the pace for his predecessors.
