GAPOSA Introduces 150 Minute Endurance Trek
To promote healthy living in the polytechnic community for enhanced productivity, Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic has introduced a fitness exercise called endurance trek.
As the first of its kind practice in the institution, the Rector of the institution, Dr. Sanni Kehinde Oseni also revealed that in no time, the student populace will experience their endurance trek.
Describing the 150 endurance trek as a metaphor for life’s journey and not just a physical challenge, Dr. Oseni charged the community to embrace fitness because “a healthy staff is a productive staff.
He emphasized that endurance is not just about physical stamina; it also involves mental toughness, emotional grit, and the determination to keep pushing forward even when the path ahead is uncertain. Each step we take brings us closer to our goals, dreams, and aspirations. To stay fit, it is recommended that we engage in 150-300 minutes of exercise per week, which amounts to approximately 42 minutes per day”.
According to the World Health Organization, regular physical activity helps to maintain a healthy body weight and can improve mental health, quality of life, and well-being.
The Sports Director, Mr. Olaniyi Olasunkanmi, stressed the importance of exercise, stressing that sport has come to stay in the institution.
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so we must create time to relax our nerves through sport, we remain united as a team irrespective of administrative positions”, he noted.
