Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic students recently participated in a blood donation event to save lives. Representing the Rector of the Polytechnic, Dr. Sanni Kehinde Oseni, the Deputy Rector, Mr. Taiwo Kolawole Ogunyinka, described the donation as a voluntary act of kindness. The students gathered at the Onafowokan auditorium in the polytechnic for the donation event themed Blood Drive, which a delegation from Babcock University facilitated.

The Deputy Rector while explaining that the “blood drive is not only geared towards the collection of donations but also to raise awareness on the importance of blood donation emphasized that the blood drive has a significant impact of a single act of kindness on numerous Lives.

“Blood donation is a collective responsibility that plays a crucial role in saving and improving the health of others, particularly for medical purposes such as transfusions for patients who have undergone surgery, Experience trauma, or are dealing with medical conditions, ultimately contributing to the extended longevity of life because we often lose lives to life-threatening circumstances”.

The leader of the delegation, MLS Adedolapo Onifade, emphasized in his speech that coming together for blood donation plays a vital role in improving public health. He maintained that it potentially saves lives and helps donors to know their health status. Donating blood helps the body’s system to produce fresh red blood cells, and also reduces the risk of heart attack and cardiovascular diseases.

In his closing remarks, the Sub Dean, Mr. Oladapo Opaleye, who represented the Dean of the Directorate of Student Affairs, Dr. Adedayo Musari, emphasized the importance of blood donation. He described the initiative as a valuable resource for those in need of blood transfusion and highlighted its significant impact on the health and well-being of the community. Furthermore, he assured the students that the donated blood will be provided to those in need free of charge.

Notable attendees at the event included other delegates of Babcock University, MLS Adaramola Mary, MLS Abioa Muyiwa, MLS Ajayi Modupe, MLS David Vivian, MLS Owokalade Princess, MLS Ogundare Olayent, Mr Fasakin Kehinde and Mr. Azeez Mutiu. As well as personnel from the Polytechnic’s health facility, Mrs Animot Dada and Dr. Pius Amosu.
